Payments used to mean a sales call, a PDF contract, and six weeks of integration. We started Ledgerline on a simple bet: if the docs are runnable, the sale closes itself. A developer who has already created their first invoice — for real, from the documentation, in under a minute — doesn't need convincing.
What we believe
Reading is integrating. Every code example on our docs is pre-filled with your test key and runs live against the same backend the dashboard renders. There is no separate "playground" — the docs are the product.
One data model, honestly. Every state change emits an immutable event. That single decision gives you webhooks, an audit trail, a live feed, and a free tier all at once. We didn't bolt those on; they fall out of the model.
Free where it's cheap, paid where there's value. Test mode is unlimited and free because it costs us almost nothing and helps you build. You pay only when a real charge succeeds.
The honest boundary
Ledgerline is a cshell reference venture — a faithful, working clone of a developer-infrastructure company built to a fixed quality bar. In this build, live mode is a clearly-labelled placeholder backed by a vault-granted test key. Nothing here moves real money, and we never pretend otherwise. What is real is the developer experience: the runnable docs, the event ledger, the hosted pages, and the 4242 test-card loop.
